Alabama Public Television wants to congratulate our 8 2023 Fund for Teacher Fellows!Whitney Pruitt and Kristi Plemons Pelham City Schools
Project Description: The purpose of this fellowship is to gain an understanding of Welsh and Scottish coal miners who immigrated to our area in the 1800s. We have exhaustively researched, using the local resources available to us and have identified historical sites and archives in Great Britain that contain records and artifacts related to our problem of practice.

Krista Marcum and Lynn Lowell Gulf Shores City Schools
Project Description: Ecology Project International's course provides opportunities to participate in research/conservation projects while developing ecological knowledge and honing science/engineering practices through experiential learning. Participants learn strategies to inspire students, use the 5E Instructional Model, develop lessons, and conduct fieldwork.

Project Description: This is for a trip to the University of Salamanca, Spain for the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) conference. I hope to go to the conference to learn new teaching ideas to help my students and immerse myself in the culture and language for professional development.

Elyse Jordan
Project Description: I would like to visit London, Paris, and Milan in order to study fashion. From this fellowship I hope to learn ways to implement analog and problem solving skills, community and cooperation all while executing a ecologically and financially sustainable fashion lesson and making real world career connections.

Lauren Hillis and Beth Massey Madison City Schools
Project Description: Travel to Japan and document the cultural experience through photographs/journaling. Upon return, we will share our experiences with all stakeholders to increase cultural awareness and increase our effectiveness in welcoming Japanese families to our school. We will also use our experiences to compare and contrast different cultures with students.

Fund for Teachers awards professional development grants to teachers to explore their own learning during the summer.
Since 2012, Fund for Teachers has awarded professional development grants to 133 Alabama teachers.

"Fund for Teachers supports educators' efforts to develop skills, knowledge and confidence that impact student achievement. By trusting teachers to design unique fellowships, Fund for Teachers grants validate teachers' professionalism and leadership, as well. Since 2001, Fund for Teachers has invested $22 million in nearly 6,000 teachers, transforming grants into growth for teachers and their students."
Program Information:
Fund for Teachers provides educators, possessing a broad vision of what it means to teach and learn, the resources needed to pursue self-designed professional learning experiences. FFT grants are used for an unlimited variety of projects; all designed to create enhanced learning environments for teachers, their students and their school communities. We believe that supporting teachers' active participation in their own professional growth, positively impacts student learning and achievement.
Eligibility Criteria:
-
Employed full-time as a PreK-12th grade teacher and spends at least 50% of their work week in direct instruction with students in a classroom or classroom-like setting;

Intends to continue teaching in the consecutive school year; and
-
Has at least three years teaching experience as a PreK-12th grade teacher.
Individuals may apply for up to $5,000 and teams may apply for up to $10,000 (all team members must meet the eligibility criteria). Upon award, Fellows will receive 90 percent of their grant award, the remaining 10 percent to be reimbursed upon completion of post-fellowship requirements.
